Where did more than $1 million in Restaurant Revitalization money go?

On a listing of Sarasota eating places that got more than $1 million in federal COVID-19 reduction money, a single stands out. 

The index of the leading cafe grant recipients, at the rear of Siesta Key’s Captain Curt’s Crab and Oyster Bar, lists a $1,685,677 grant awarded to a woman named Heather Perkins, supposedly for a catering small business.

Problem is, Perkins explained she’s hardly ever catered everything in her life. She said she wasn’t informed her title was hooked up to a federal grant — let on your own just one topping far more than $1 million — till she was not too long ago contacted by a Herald-Tribune reporter.

Perkins reported she was baffled that the U.S. Smaller Business Administration grant experienced her title on it, and that it was connected with her home handle in Sarasota. 

She returned the reporter’s concept by apologetically expressing they had the improper individual. Incorporating that she’s never worked in catering, Perkins said she’s been performing remotely component-time for a regulation agency for the earlier two years.
